Urgent Mental Health Care Centre now open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including public holidays

In South Australia, about half of the people who present to metropolitan emergency departments with mental health related issues, do not need to be admitted to hospital to have their urgent care needs met.

That’s where our nation-first Urgent Mental Health Care Centre comes in - it’s a safe and welcoming alternative to presenting to an ED for those experiencing mental health crises - and it’s now open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including public holidays.

The Centre is free and no referral is required. The Marshall Liberal Government is investing an additional $4.5 million a year so the centre can transform from a 12 hour-a-day operation to a 24/7 operation.

It’s part of the Marshall Government’s plan to boost out-of-hospital care, to reduce pressure on our EDs and fix ramping.
