Mission accomplished: Golden Grove Road Upgrade major works completed

Published on December 2021

You told me that an upgrade to Golden Grove Road was an important priority to make your travel easier, faster and safer.

Road safety, traffic congestion and public transport travel times have been improved on a 6.4 kilometre section of Golden Grove Road following the completion of long awaited upgrade works and bus priority treatments at four key intersections.

Major works are now complete on the $30 million Golden Grove Road Upgrade Project Stage Two, which was fully funded by the Marshall Liberal Government.

Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Corey Wingard said the completion of Stage Two fulfilled the Marshall Government’s election commitment to upgrade the notorious section of Golden Grove Road between One Tree Hill Road and Park Lake Drive.

“We have delivered on that commitment by investing a combined $50 million into stages one and two of the Golden Grove Road Upgrade Project, which are now both complete,” Minister Wingard said.

“Residents in the north east have been crying out for a solution to this road for years and it’s great to be part of a government that’s building what matters to South Australians.

“Stage Two supported around 70 full time equivalent jobs per year over the life of the project and involved upgrades to the 1.3 kilometre section of Golden Grove Road from Park Lake Drive to Kunzea Way, just north of the intersection with The Grove Way and Yatala Vale Road.

“This is just one of a number of major projects from our $17.9 billion infrastructure pipeline that we are proud to be delivering to provide real benefits for local communities.”

Stage Two also featured bus priority treatments at the Golden Grove Road intersections with The Grove Way and Yatala Vale Road, with Grenfell Road, with Milne Road and with North East Road and Modbury Avenue.

As your local Member, in recent media I stated that:

"these treatments spanned a 6.4 kilometre section of Golden Grove Road and would make local residents’ daily commute faster, safer and easier, in conjunction with the completed road infrastructure upgrades"

“This is great news for the many residents of the northern and north-eastern suburbs who use O-Bahn bus services beyond Tea Tree Plaza Interchange,".

“Golden Grove Road is a key corridor for these buses once they leave the O-Bahn tracks, and the bus priority lanes at the intersections will allow faster access from Tea Tree Plaza to Golden Grove and better access for residents wanting to use these services".

“Local motorists will also benefit from second through lanes on Golden Grove Road on both approaches to its intersection with The Grove Way and Yatala Vale Road, after the signalised intersection was upgraded as part of Stage Two.”

“The project will benefit all road users, delivering on-road bike lanes in each direction, new and upgraded road lighting, improved pedestrian facilities and indented bus bays, as well as road resurfacing.”

Minor finishing works will continue until early 2022.

The Golden Grove Road Upgrade Project team is working with the City of Tea Tree Gully to deliver local government infrastructure, including footpaths and landscaping works.

The City of Tea Tree Gully will also plant 300 trees to help re-establish the Golden Grove Road wildlife corridor and improve amenity, thanks to funding from the State Government.
