I am seeking your views on the Termination of Pregnancy Bill that was recently introduced by Vickie Chapman MP and Michelle Lensink MLC as a Private Members Bill to Parliament in the Legislative Council (Upper House). If the Bill passes the Legislative Council, it will then be debated in the House of Assembly (Lower House) and will be a conscience vote.
I am seeking your feedback on this Bill. Your views are very important to me. I have asked the Deputy Premier, Vickie Chapman about the reasons for the Bill and she told me:
- The proposed legislation will remove Abortion from the Criminal Law.
- The Bill would remove the requirement that a woman seeking to terminate a pregnancy requires approval from two medical practitioners before 22 weeks and 6 days gestation.
- After that period, it is proposed a medical practitioner can only perform an Abortion if they consult with another medical practitioner and both are of the view that the procedure is medically appropriate.
- For further background information on recommendations from the SA Law Reform Institute and SA Health’s response, email me at: email@example.com
