$27.4 million for a new service to support mental health in schools

Published on March 2022

As a mother of school age children it is so fantastic to see that a Marshall Liberal Government will support a stronger future for our children and young people.

✅

A new program, to commence this year, will provide greater access to early intervention support for students in our public schools when mental health concerns first emerge.

✅

Trained mental health practitioners will provide individual advice and support for children and young people with early signs of mental health concerns.

✅

They will then coordinate referrals to external services if more intensive support is required.

✅

They’ll also assist and check in on students experiencing more serious mental health issues when returning to school, and work with leaders, teachers and families to raise awareness and build community understanding of mental health.

❗

Poor mental health can have a direct impact on learning, behaviour and overall wellbeing so identifying these issues early is crucial.

✅

The service will commence in five local clusters in Term 3 this year, and will roll out statewide in 2023.
